Hello, Writers,
I hope you all had fantastic holidays. If not, well, it's all behind you now.
Congratulations to J.A. Guynn for his short story, Christmas Eve Tradition, winning 1st Place in the 2024 Kayla Hicks Short Story Contest. Details are in our public-facing news section of the BAWL website.
Also in the News section is our tentative calendar of events for 2025.
Events have been created for the first quarter of 2025. Please let me know if you don't see one you expected to find there.
About events, I'm happy to let you know that the monthly in-person gatherings will resume starting in February. Kate Sanger will lead the meetings, which will be held on the fourth Wednesday evening of each month at the Freeman Library on Diana Lane at 6:30 pm. For February, the final selection of speaker is pending. Once that is finalized, so will the Event. But you can register now and save the date if you're interested in participating. More details will be provided in the February newsletter. Let us know if you want to volunteer to speak or if you have someone to recommend. Stay tuned. Thank you, Kate!
April is the month for the election of officers at BAWL. All offices are open and waiting to be filled. For the president, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer positions, please email editorbawl@gmail.com for details and to volunteer. The Gatherings (held on the fourth Wednesday evening of each month for in-person meetings) will be the forum for further discussion of elections.
Dian Groh has provided the Feature to kick off our new year. Dian came across an article on Autofiction that intrigued her, and she decided to share it with the rest of us. Thank you, Dian!
Since we no longer have forums on the website, if you have helpful articles to share, send them to editorbawl@gmail.com. We'll add them to the newsletters and link them to our BAWL Substack feed.
Dark Age Press is looking for Writers. Kevin Pajak is looking to get a small book publisher business off the ground. He emailed us asking us to share the following with our members. This month, he is offering Open Submissions. Dark Age Press will be accepting Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Literary Fiction. You can find out more by visiting the https://www.darkagepress.com website or by emailing inquiries@darkagepress.com.
Disclaimer: Mr. Pajak's email was unsolicited, and we have no connection to Mr. Pajak or Dark Age Press.
That's all for now, folks. Take care, stay warm, and keep writing!
